ST. ANDREW’S HAS A NEW ORGAN……...

copeman hart organ

The organ is a COPEMAN HART Petite Orgue with 27 speaking stops.

Copeman Hart organs are custom built in Northamptonshire and are widely acknowledged by distinguished organists as producing the most authentic sounding pipe-less organs in the world. Installations include Keble College Oxford and Nottingham Concert Hall and parish churches, homes, academic institutions and concert halls in the UK, USA, Europe and Australia.

Copeman Hart is also the instrument of choice for many cathedrals and major churches to deputise while their pipe organs undergo repair and renovations. These include:-

Wells, Truro, Coventry, Lichfield, Rochester, Chelmsford, and Chester Cathedrals; Romsey Abbey, St. George’s Chapel Windsor, St. Brides Fleet Street, St. Mary Redcliffe, Bristol and the Guards’ Chapel Wellington Barracks.

The organ was originally built as a house organ in 1998 and has been donated to St.Andrew’s by Claire Timms. The organ has been completely upgraded and re voiced. This ensures that the organ is married exactly to the acoustic of the building and is a painstaking task. For this we were indebted to Ernest Hart who, despite having only recently recovered from illness, spent many hours, over four days 9th, 10th, 11th & 12th November 2006, working to 9pm and 10pm at night on two of the days, in order that we should be able to have an organ for our Remembrance tide concert and the Service of Remembrance on Sunday 12th November when we were joined by members of the Royal British Legion and Air Training Corps.

Guest organist Derick Mott from St. Andrew’s Stogursey played for the concert and also joined St. Andrew’s choir to sing tenor for the unaccompanied items. Nigel Timms our regular organist at St.Andrew’s played on the Sunday. The congregation have said how they appreciate the support the new instrument gives to the singing. Tim Webb (who was Churchwarden at St. Andrew’s for many years) has said “Never was such a sound heard in this church!” We were also pleased that Mr Hart was able to join us for both these events.

If you are an organist and would like to come and sample the organ please contact the Rector Revd. Judy Henning on 01984 640576 or email us on standrewoldcleeve@hotmail.com

We also have plans to make a fund raising CD and invite our organist friends to come and play an item for possible inclusion in this.
